On to their next lite-up in, none other than, Haneyville!

Needless to say, they made Haneyville sing Haney praises when they placed a Model 412 DF with partial marquee at a great Restaurant. Haneyville could be a Haney Honeyhole!

Vernie Boren flew in to help RM Joe Brewer recruit with great results! A fantastic week produced four new dealers for the Liberty Bells. Thanks, Vernie! We hear these are very strong and capable new recruits, and we can’t wait to hear from the new Liberty Bells soon! Welcome to Signtronix and to an exciting and fulfilling future!

Not only does Joe Brewer and his beautiful wife, Rosemary, work hard, but they also play hard AND then work hard some more… for charity! A group from their church traveled to the beach area in Atlantic City nearly destroyed by hurricane Sandy and did a “mud out” project. A little church in the middle of a very poor area was devastated by 40” of water. Their team ripped everything out that was ruined by the water so that they can rebuild. Joe and Rosemary worked with Samaritan’s Purse on this amazing project. This wonderful couple is always looking for ways to give back. It’s so inspiring. Thank you, Brewers!

They are looking for fairly new businesses…businesses that have started within the last 2 years. That’s why I need your help. I don’t know where to start! Can you help me by telling me who’s the newest business on your street?”

I continue probing for more new businesses in the area. “Somebody said there’s a new restaurant that opened a few months ago…where is it?” After I feel I have exhausted my query for new businesses, I ask for businesses that have changed ownership or remodeled. (You are writing these down, right?)

Isn’t this person great? You have made a new friend. You feel a lot better now, right? You are fast becoming that 1,000 pound gorilla again!

Just because your new friends may start out shaking their head negatively doesn’t mean they don’t have the information you want. Keep asking, keep probing and they will come up with a pocketful of referrals for you! You are now back in charge of your gorilla attitude! Before I leave my friends business to go to the first referral, I stop and say…

“Wow, I’m being rude! I haven’t even shown you the new discovery we’re talking about! I have a small sample in the car, would you like to see it? I’ll bring it right in!”

I have sold my new friends a lot of signs using this technique! But more important, my new friends have given me a truckload of referrals, a new found, 1,000 pound gorilla attitude and they have helped me quell the demons that try their best to lure me into the pit of failure and despair, the pit we call…The Dreaded Slump!

Now that you know my secret, you should never stay in a slump! If you become proficient in generating pockets full of referrals, whether you’re in a slump or not, you will make your life a lot easier! Strive to have 70% of your sales come from referrals.

“If you change your message once a week and alternate a funny saying with a sale item, people will go out of their way to read your sign. They’ll be talking about you all over town!” ~Dave Grosmann

First, I drove into a downtown area and parked the car near the corner of a block. I got out of the car and walked into the very first business on the block. I had a rule that said, “Don’t look up!” I wouldn’t allow myself to look up at the business sign for fear that I would make a pre-judgement and not make the call.

Here is my secret. I went into the business solely for the purpose of generating 4 or 5 referrals. MY PURPOSE WAS NOT TO SELL A SIGN!

I needed to talk with a friendly person. I needed to find acceptance. I needed to get another human being to respond to me in a friendly, caring way! I needed to talk to someone that would help quiet the demons that were plaguing me…to help get my 1,000 pound gorilla attitude back on track! The business owner was the best person I could think of to help me!

My first priority was to talk with the owner. If the owner wasn’t in, I would talk with the manager. If the manager wasn’t in, I would talk with an employee. After introducing myself, here’s how my conversation went.

“Jim, I stopped in because I need some help. I’m not here to try to sell you anything. My company makes outdoor and indoor lighted signs for businesses all across America. They just came on the market with a new discovery that will revolutionize business signage.

They are marketing it through a nationwide network of dealers. Part of the marketing plan is to place some of the new signs on ‘key business’ locations throughout an area to use as Showcase Locations. Our dealers will use these locations as a ‘showroom’ to help them sell more signs in the area. Does that make sense?

They have sent me here to set up the program. To help me establish the locations, they have offered to pick up a big share of the cost of the signs!

By Tom Johnson

Is it the Monday after a great weekend and you just can’t seem to get your head back into the business? Maybe you took the week off and now find yourself having to ‘pay the piper’ for the celebrating you did and all the relaxing you enjoyed.

Or, is it possible that the last lite-up you made turned into a 3 hour marathon presentation? Did the prospect keep leading you down the primrose path only to ‘kiss’ you out the door without a sale? Did he lie to you or insult you before you finally got up the courage to get out? Now, do you find yourself stuck in the driving mode, licking your wounds, when you know you should be getting engaged in making lite-ups?

This happens to all of us. Isn’t it amazing how much this business ‘sucks’ at times and how exciting and exhilarating it is at other times? So what’s the difference? It has nothing to do with the business! People don’t just suddenly stop buying signs! The good Lord hasn’t singled you out as the one person in the world who can’t sell signs! Our success or failure is not determined by what happens to us, but how we react to what happens!

YOU ARE SIMPLY IN A MENTAL SLUMP! You have temporarily lost your enthusiasm, momentum and rhythm! Now is the time to do something! Like the old saying:

“Do Something! Lead, Follow or Get the Hell Out of the Way…But Do Something!

I averaged 7 sales a week for 52 consecutive weeks, and I had my share of slumps. I found a sure fire way to get out of them!

In conducting a reality check on myself, I realized I always felt at my best when I immersed myself in a sales presentation. I experienced excitement, passion, power and giving! It turned me on! After making a sale and cashing the deposit check, I felt like a 1,000 pound gorilla! I could go anywhere, do anything!

Conversely, the longer I stayed out of a presentation; the worse I felt! I would conjure up all kinds of demons! I would get negative, angry, disappointed and depressed! I learned to hate those feelings and thoughts! I figured I had two choices. Did I want to spend my day as a happy, 1,000 pound gorilla or as a weak, wandering generality listening to the demons draw me into failure and despair? Here’s how I broke the slump.

DM Brandon Gither finished off the month of October by helping an Auto Body Shop with a Model 46 and a pair of 3-line 6′ Tri-Color EMC’s while showing new dealer Angela Rector a full day of lite-ups in the field. Angela then got her Icebreaker on Friday when she found a Leather Goods Store in a strip mall needing help. With a little assistance from DM Brandon Gither and TAP Rep Chris Ingemi, Angela helped the owners by placing a Model 46 DF.

New Dealer Greg Holifield is on FIRE since his Icebreaker 10 days ago. Greg had never worked for commission before, and he really liked the opportunity he saw with Signtronix. Since his Icebreaker, Greg has placed 3 more locations; a Memorial and Head Stone business is excited about their new Model 46, a Clothing Store last Friday ordered an LED-60 3-line and referred Greg to a Jewelry Repair Shop who purchased an LED-60 3-line on Monday. That’s 4 contracts in 10 days. Way to go, Greg!

RM Ron Gither is proud of his team and thankful for all the help from TAP for their help with his new dealers.
