Life is movement.  We go up or down and develop the best or worst of us in the journey.  Some journeys are full of struggle… some are full of success.  But the thing that makes for success is struggle and difficulty… for without difficulties to overcome there would be no such thing as succeeding.

Excerpts from “No Limits… The Will To Succeed” by Michael Phelps

Bob Bowman (Michael Phelps’ coach) has a rather simple philosophy:  “We do things others people can’t or won’t do.”  Bob’s expectations are simple, too.  It’s like the quote he had up on the whiteboard one day at practice a few months before the Games.

The Secret of Top Salespeople – By Buddy Swisshelm

Use Their Name

  • The sweetest sound to everyone is their own name.
  • Decide to make a friend
  • Learn how to remember their name
  • The most important other person
  • Make it personal

Ask Them To Tell Their Story

  • The sale only moves forward when they are talking.
  • You will always like and remember the person who listens to you.
  • Be interested and curious about their success.
  • Become amazed.
  • Ask business advice.
  • You can tell how they make decisions by listening to how they got to where they are.
  • Be the person who believes in their dream.

Get A Tour

  • I love to have them show me around.
  • Let them tell about how they built their business.
  • If new, let them show you where things are headed.
  • Walk outside to see where the sign will go.
  • If you can see where they want to go, you have a better idea of what they want.

Find Out Their Goals

  • If you can gain rapport to the level where they will share their goals, you are selling this sign!
  • Give them feedback on how our product will help them in their business goals.  This is a reason you are there.
  • If you know their goals, you know their hot spots. This will be very useful in the profit picture and close.
  • Help them to think big!!!!

Find Common Ground

  • If nothing else is working, find common ground.
  • Look around.
  • You must be sincere.
  • Since gaining rapport is more important than building value, finding common ground should take more time than building value!
  • Make a friend.

Commit to something… anything at all.  If you can’t commit to something big then commit to something small… but commit.” ~Steve Ingemi

The Secret of Top Salespeople – By Buddy Swisshelm

The Secret To Increasing Your Closing Ratio

  • Taking a no is part of the business. As a matter of fact, it is part of the success formula. Every top salesperson understands that “the more no’s you take, the more money you make.”
  • Still, improving your closing ratio is everyone’s goal. Do you know what your closing ratio is?
  • A great salesperson once said, “I don’t want to sell everyone;I just want to sell the next one.”
  • What is the quickest way to increase your closing ratio?
  • The answer might surprise you!  The secret is in Step 2 – Gain rapport.
  • Gaining rapport should be your #1 goal.
  • Customers buy from who they want to buy from.
  • It is not the price, or the artwork, or even the presentation.  It starts and ends
  • with… who do they like.

Different Techniques For Gaining Rapport

  • You must sincerely want to help their business.
  • The quickest way out of a slump is to go help someone.
  • If you are able to leave your personal concerns behind and just focus on helping your customer, you do not need the rest of this meeting.
  • When you are there for their benefit, you will do what is best for your customer. This is something that we all can pick up from people in every situation. When we know that others truly care, it changes how we think and interact.  When I truly am there to help them and not myself, I rarely fail.
  • People do not care what you know until they know that you care.
  • Do the right thing.
  • Recognize that wants are stronger than needs
